Termites And New Construction-keep Pests Out From Day One By Craig Elliott When you are building a house, there are several things that you want to be sure of. Of course you are looking to be sure that the plans are being followed, and that you are using as little energy and money as possible. You want to be sure that the house will be exactly what you are looking for in the end, but you also want to be sure that it is done correctly. What you might not be thinking about is something that you should be - and that is the idea of termites in your new construction. Many people believe that termites belong to older houses and older construction sites, and are therefore not important to think about. However, if you don't pay attention to termites and your new construction, you will find that you will end up being sorry in the end.
This is because the best thing that you can do to make sure you never have to worry about termites is to protect your house from the moment that you are building it. There are several ways that you can do this, and you must be sure that you do them all. First of all, you have to inspect the wood careful to make sure it is of good quality, has no termites, and is not too porous. Then, you have to be extra careful about where and how you store your wood during your construction. Finally, you have to take all of the precautions that you can to keep termites out while you are building and after you are done.
The first thing that you have to think about is the wood. You want to make sure that you are using wood that is of the best quality where there is little or no chance of termite infestation. Don't settle for cheap wood for your new construction. It might be tempting to save money by using used wood or other cheap sources. However, the amount of money that you save by this won't be worth it if you end up with a termite infestation that ruins your whole home. You want to be sure that you are giving your house every chance to stand strong for as long as you have it. Therefore, use high quality wood. Also, you should inspect you wood as you are using it. You want to be extra certain that you are only using wood that has no mites or

holes where mites will be able to get in. Take the time to inspect all of your wood, and don't use pieces that look bad. Also, be sure that the wood you have chosen is not too porous. You don't want to give the termites any chance of getting into your wood.
How and where you store your wood during construction is a big factor. As you are piling wood on your site to use in your home, you should not pile it on the bare ground. You should be sure that the wood is up off of the ground in whatever way that you can. If you have to use a tarp or a raised platform, be sure that you do this. Better yet, leave the wood in the truck until you use it. You want to keep the wood as dry and safe as possible before you use it in construction. If you leave it laying on the ground unprotected, that is an entire area where termites can get in and begin to burrow.
Now, for the actual building. Believe it or not, this is a major place where termites might get in. As you are using your wood in the building you have to be sure that you are doing so on termite free areas. Check, double check, and then spray the ground for bugs before you put down a single piece of wood. You want there to be nothing alive under your house as you begin to build it. This is a very important aspect of your building. Before you even start, you should be sure that there are no infestations. If you see one, don't be content on just killing the bugs; be sure that you are spraying so that they are all destroyed. If you build your house where bugs already are, you will find them in your home later on. Also, as you are building, be extra sure to seal any cracks and to take care of any of the issues that come up with your building materials. You have to be sure that you are sealing up all of the holes so that nothing can get in later on.
